Captions are part of the standard SOP Video Starter. Captions or voiceover in other languages are scoped with you, as part of the project.

Planning training for more than one language

These points apply whoever makes your videos.

Training in someone’s first language helps them follow it, but it does not confirm they have understood. Practical competency should still be assessed by an appropriately authorised person where required.

  • Start from the languages your workforce actually uses, not a long list of every possibility
  • Let the picture carry the procedure: show the step being done, then describe it
  • Keep on-screen text short and the English plain, which also makes translation easier
  • Ask a fluent speaker from your site to review translated captions or scripts before release
  • Keep the written SOP as the source of truth, and update every language version when it changes

Where it fits

Can one video be used for several languages?

That depends on the procedure and the languages involved. Because video shows the work being done, much of the instruction is visual, and captions or voiceover carry the rest. We will recommend an approach when we scope your project.

Does this replace checking that people understand?

No. Practical competency should still be assessed by an appropriately authorised person where required.
